Conversations with Dr. Pope Next Episode

By Sheila Pope

I met with my next guests, Reginald Guillory and his wife Millie to plan the two-part series. During the first episode, we will discuss criminal justice reform, the re-entry process, and patterns of criminal behavior in families. I am the founder and CEO of The Next Move Re-entry Program 501c3 These issues are heart issues for me. I hope my work will shine a positive light on the experiences of ex-offenders and provide some resources for those in need of help.

During the second episode, we will meet and have a conversation with women who love and support ex-offenders. We will explore their choices to love ex-offenders and the cost they often pay to love their mates. More professional women are living with, married, it dating ex-offenders. We want to explore their rationale for taking the leap.

We hope both episodes of @Conversations with Dr. Pope will help our audience gain valuable information about the struggles and successes of ex-offenders and the women who love and support them.
If your company would like to sponsor the episodes, please contact us at: 832.633.8304

Another Successful Dissertation Client!

By Dr. Sheila Pope

My SECOND dissertation client called me to share her exciting news: her dissertation was approved by her committee and it has been sent to her school for final approval!

I have coached my client through stressful times and edited her work for the last year. I tell my clients, “I am here until the end”. Sometimes it takes a while for the end to arrive. I had the honor to edit her proposal, her ethics paper, her Capstone project, and her final Capstone Report!

Trust is Required
I am glad my client trusted me to help her accomplish her goal. She was not always happy with my feedback, but she listened and respected my knowledge of Capella’s process. We spent a great deal of time via the phone and I will miss her, but I look forward to working with her in other professional endeavors.

Capella’s Capstone Project
Capella University has cut down the time it takes to earn a doctorate in Education. My client contracted my services in September 2017 when she was ready to write. I am proud of her! I have TWO clients preparing to defend this month!

Two Opening!
I have openings for two more Dissertation Clients. I can only take a couple at a time. I stay until the end. I provide clients with several opportunities to talk with me via phone and email. I thoroughly edit and return work with feedback to help clients secure their mentor’s approval. I coach clients through the creative process and through conquering milestones. I celebrate their success like it was my own. I love this part of coaching. Getting the phone call makes my day!

The Producer

By Dr. Sheila Pope

I took time from editing my client’s dissertations to learn how to become a Producer via Houston Media Source. I took the first step by completing the orientation. I plan to have my own series soon. During orientation, I met two new fierce Boss Ladies in the process! The two young ladies were: Spoken word artist, Ebony Rose and business owner Tiffany Nicole.

Tiffany was the tall, beautiful version of myself! While I am was telling her about the Boss Ladies, she was on her phone requesting to join the group.

Who are Boss Ladies? Boss Ladies are a group of female small business owners who share information about the challenges and the benefits of running a small business. We support and encourage each others.

During the touring part of the orientation, I kept saying to Ebony, “I know you”. I kept wondering where I had met Tiffany too. During our exchange, I immediately recognized, Ebony’s power and confidence. I listened while Tiffany praised Ebony’s talent. In Boss Ladies, we celebrate each other’s gifts, accomplishments, and events. Ebony did not boast about her poetry skills, but I could see she knew she was great! I told her to own it. I do not believe women should down play their talents.

I was so excited to see their hustle in the parking lot. They were lining up their sponsors to become producers and so was I. They were thinking and doing some next-level hustling! I was doing the same thing. We all were working on our plans.

Also, during the orientation, Tiffany asked about the Houston Media Source’s Radio Program. I plan to have a radio shows too. Both of them planned to use public access television to promote their talent and their businesses.

There are three main goals of Boss Ladies. We promote, support, and encourage female business owners. When I started Boss Ladies, I did not ask for any membership dues or charge advertising fees. However, this month we are changing. I want to grow the group and expand our activities.

Special moments like meeting Ebony Rose and Tiffany Nicole remind me of the reasons I created Boss Ladies. As a small business owner, I have experienced great highs and so serious lows. Yet I am moving forward because of encounters like this.

I had a serious business matter that was weighing heavily on my mind during orientation. While I was trying to figure out how I was going to raise money to keep my office space, thinking of ways to use television, and trying to decide if it was time to have a radio program, God was lining up my appointed time to meet two Boss Ladies like myself. I am looking forward to my new adventure in television production.

Connections Matter to Voters!

By Dr. Sheila Pope

I had the opportunity to watch Judge Fredricka Phillps(she was an attorney at that time) become Vice Chair of Texas Democrats Convention in Dallas (Royce West hosted) in 2008/2009. Since her election as Vice Chair, her career has sky rocketed. I have seen her actively make the rounds with Democrats too.

When she came into SD11 Caucus yesterday before we began to vote and announced she was moving forward in her journey, I realized I was witnessing a transferring of power. I was able to see how two African American women were able to obtain one of the most coveted seats in the Texas Democratic Party.

I was grateful I was able to see Judge Phillips groom and actively support her possible replacement, Dr. Carla Brailey (won nomination at Black Democrats Caucus). Women helping women is critical in any endeavor. Black women supporting each other in politics and business is powerful on many levels.

Both of these ladies are beautiful, smart, and ambitious. They were active in their communities and excelled in their careers before they earned the right to get on the ballot for Vice Chair of Texas Democratic Party. More important, they understood the power of working together to ensure their agenda becomes a reality.

If no one else was woke, I was! To have the outgoing Vice Chair support you speaks volumes to the entire party. Carroll G. Robinson provided a fantastic introduction to Dr. Brailey. Deborah Peoples gave an outstanding speech at the Black Caucus. The crowd loved her speech. You could support her just as well as Dr. Brailey if you were voting based on speeches. Mr. Robinson added credibility to Dr. Brailey. I knew him and I have followed his political career for years. Their connection was important to me.

Yet when I asked my children who they wanted me to cast my vote for, London said Dr. Carla Brailey because she said she “knew her”.

Dr. Brailey and Judge Phillips came to Pearland Democrats Club’s June meeting and spoke to the club and both of the ladies spoke with me about being a mom and teaching our children early about serving the community. I had a connections with Judge Phillips from 2009 and from her work with Adrienne Bell. I discovered Dr. Brailey and I worked at TSU during the same time. I helped students in the sociology department with their research papers. She spoke to my children and London loved the way she looked. A girly girl is London’s Shero!

Dr. Brailey made a connection with me and my family. When I saw her at the convention she again spoke with us. Her team was nice and gave us goodies. I also observed how she and Judge Phillips were working together. Voters need to see who you are connected to and with and voters need to see candidates working before an election and after an election. If you googled Dr. Brailey like I did, you could see she was on her grind for years.

I understood after watching this tranference of power between two dynamic African American female democrats at the 2018 Texas Democrats Convention, connections matter! If you want to hold a seat of power, it is vital you have the right connections.
